The farfalla Midwifery Aid in Madagascar
October 29, 2025
Giving birth in a safe, supported, and well-cared-for environment – something that is generally taken for granted in this country – remains an unfulfilled wish for countless women and children worldwide. In many countries, maternal and infant mortality rates are still alarmingly high. There is a lack of medical care, trained professionals – and especially midwives.
The situation is also precarious in Madagascar, one of the world's poorest countries. Pregnant women often live hand to mouth without professional help. The health risks for mother and child are high.
Farfalla therefore specifically supports projects for safe births – and dignified support from the very beginning. This year, we are funding the training of midwifery student Najure , who is working with great dedication for Mobile Aid Madagascar.
Najure began her career as a StorkCenter midwife at MHM, supporting pregnant women and preparing them for childbirth. She is now completing comprehensive training in obstetrics. With expertise, empathy, and a strong sense of community, she helps women bring their children into the world safely. "We help each other – and together we help others. I'm proud to contribute to my country," says Najure. "It's wonderful to work here. Because helping others makes you happy."
With our support, Najure can complete her training – and thus be able to help many more women and newborns. Because every mother has the right to a safe birth. And every child to a healthy start in life.
