How to properly dose essential oils
1.4.2025
Essential oils are highly concentrated plant substances. Correct dosage is crucial for safe and pleasant use – whether for room fragrance or skincare. The natural DIY range is available as a base product, as are pure, cold-pressed organic care oils and aloe vera gels .
Room fragrance
Scent lamp and diffuser:
1–5 drops (or as per instructions for use)
Scented stones:
10–15 drops
Organic room spray (DIY):
20–40 drops per 70 ml of Farfalla organic room spray DIY

Inhalations
Water vapor inhalation:
1-3 drops per inhalation, depending on the intensity of the essential oil.
Use sparingly, as it is very intensive.
Dry inhalation (smell stick) or scented wipes:
1–5 drops
Body and skin care
Always use essential oils diluted on the skin and do not mix them with synthetic substances.
Organic natural perfume (DIY):
15–30 drops for an Eau de Toilette
45–90 drops for an Eau de Parfum
on 27 ml Farfalla organic perfume DIY
Shower gel / bubble bath:
0.5–1% dilution
20–40 drops per 200 ml of Farfalla DIY shower gel/bubble bath
Bath / foot bath:
4–10 drops per full bath.
Since essential oils are not water-soluble, always mix them beforehand in a natural emulsifier (e.g., farfalla DIY shower gel/bubble bath, cream, honey or organic care oil).
Massage / body care:
1–3% dilution
10–45 drops per 75 ml of farfalla organic care oil
Facial care:
0.5% dilution
3 drops of essential oil to 30 ml of farfalla organic care oil
0.1% dilution
1 drop of essential oil per 50 ml of farfalla organic care oil

Shelf life
Always store essential oils tightly closed, protected from sunlight and large temperature fluctuations.
- For skin applications: use within 24 months of opening.
- Citrus oils, conifers, tea tree: within 12 months
- For room fragrance or in laundry detergent: usable until the expiration date.
Note regarding photosensitizing oils
- Certain essential oils – especially those from citrus peels such as bergamot, bitter orange, grapefruit, lime, or lemon – can make the skin more sensitive to UV radiation. These photosensitizing oils should not be applied to the skin before sun exposure. For fragrance blends, body care products, or perfumes, it is recommended to use low-furocoumarin versions to avoid unwanted skin reactions.
Precautions
Specific precautions apply to people in sensitive life phases (pregnant women, children, and people with asthma/COPD, allergies, epilepsy, or other special needs). Please consult the relevant specialist literature.
