Bergamot oil in aromatherapy
The psychological effects of bergamot oil
In aromatherapy, bergamot essential oil is used to overcome emotional lows, ease sadness, and reduce anxiety. Unlike most citrus scents, bergamot is considered to be deeply calming and non-stimulating. It is called the "lavender" of citrus oils because of its similar properties to lavender. Bergamot oil promotes cheerfulness, serenity, and sunny thoughts. It can help support overall well-being.
The physical effects of bergamot oil
Bergamot oil has diverse antimicrobial properties and is described as anti-inflammatory, wound-healing, and regenerative. Bergamot oil is highly photosensitizing; when applied to the skin, avoid contact with UV radiation for at least 12 hours (phototoxic). The "low-furocoumarin" version is generally recommended for skin care. Always follow the dilution table (0.5-1%).
