Rosmarinus officinalis ct. Cineole
Rosemary belongs to the mint family (Lamiaceae) and is native to the Mediterranean region. The essential oil is extracted from the leaves by steam distillation. The cineole chemotype is characterized by its high content of 1,8-cineole. A chemotype (ct.) describes a specific chemical composition within the same plant species. Depending on location, climate, and soil conditions, a plant can develop different main active ingredients, which influences its effects and applications.
Rosemary oil in aromatherapy
The psychological effects of rosemary oil
Rosemary oil contains cineole, which is stimulating, enhances memory, and promotes concentration. It helps clear the mind and banish fatigue. It can be particularly supportive and energizing in cases of weakness.
The physical effects of rosemary oil
Rosemary oil contains cineole, which has expectorant and antimicrobial properties. It is used in aromatherapy to support the respiratory system and blood pressure. Due to its circulation-promoting properties, it is often used in massage oils and for scalp care. Always follow the dilution table.
Other chemotypes
Rosemary ct. Verbenone
This chemotype contains less cineole but a higher proportion of verbenone. Rosemary ct. Verbenone is particularly valued for its regenerating properties. It is well-suited for skin care because it supports cell renewal and is often used for sensitive or mature skin. It is also gentler on the nervous system.
Rosemary ct. Camphor
Rosemary oil, with its high camphor content, has powerful circulation-promoting and muscle-relaxing properties. It is often used in warming massage oils for athletes to support muscle regeneration. Due to its active ingredients, it should be dosed with extreme caution and not used during sensitive phases of life.
